Hot Tips is a constantly growing, curated collection of candid advice by and for product people.
Think of it as a precious piece of advice you wish you had received when you started building products. It’s a short snippet of wisdom that helps you do things differently.
Contributing a Hot Tip it the fastest way to reach 3,000+ makers from all over Europe. Your daily grind might be their ‘aha moment’!

Your Tip can belong to one of the three categories.
📖 Be as open as you can: share insider knowledge, something people won’t have come across before. A Hot Tip reveals how you do things.
🎨 Show, don’t (just) tell: talking about your roadmapping process? How about including a screenshot of the tool you use? There’s nothing better than seeing your ‘behind-the-scenes’.
💌 Keep it short and personal: aim for 200 words max, and word it like you’re helping a friend out.
🔧 Share tools: offer readers an opportunity to explore the topic. Link to at least one helpful ebook or article that helped you in the past.
We've all got our own 'stack' of tools, platforms and even productivity hacks. But which adds the most value to you and how have you used it?
For quantitative data we use Amplitude. We’ve built an awesome data pipeline with Snowplow and we are able to extract and visualise advanced user segments, funnels and behavioral cohorts which we can then compare against each other to know the types of users that are most likely to buy for example. You can create fantastic dashboards that update in real-time, are easy to understand, group and share with the rest of the business.
There are a tonne of survey tools out there, but you can pretty much achieve all your need from google forms. Easy and free to setup and share, and then it’s easy to extract into spreadsheets, create pivot tables and spot patterns for you to dive into in more detail. There’s really no need for paying for these products unless you really have the money and time to create super-advanced surveys.
Intercom is a great tool to connect with users. For example, you can use email, in-app messaging and this is how I use it to get users to complete surveys. You can even just strike up a conversation with users who perform specific events or target by country etc. It all depends on you sending decent events to Intercom in the first place. I highly recommend taking care of your data architecture first, but you can also use it out of the box to get started quickly.

GoSquared is probably the star of the show. We initially adopted the tool for in-app analytics at Porism, to show us which features people were using and a plotted journey of user sessions, but then they released a massive feature: live chat. Once I even managed to convert a visitor while I sipped on a pint in the pub.
It’s a hefty cabinet of useful customer intelligence, and my personal preference to Intercom.
